Killing Floor III Review – Tripwire and I both need to get rid of bugs!

Killing Floor III Review

I already played the game for almost 30 hours (and probably play quite a few more hours to get platinum) so I thought I qualify for this Killing Floor III review.

As you can guess from the title itself – yes, Killing Floor III is ridden with bugs and very annoying. However, when game does not crash or bug out, it is actually a very fun game. No wave is the same. And I am not really a “horror” gamer but I really enjoy the game so far.

I am not sure if there is story, I completed annoying tutorial and then went straight into war against Zeds (or monsters). There are a few missions that I have completed (story missions, so I guess Killing Floor III features some sort of story). The game also features quite a few assignments like Daily Orders and Weekly Operations. Also Assignment (for Battle Pass, of course).

Killing Floor features 6 playable characters also called Perks (?). I only played with 2 – Commando (Foster) and Doctor (Obi (Wan?)). It’s got a few class-specific weapons which you can highly customise with mods. And then also upgrade the mods.

Killing Floor III review of the good stuff

The cop-op aspect

You know I don’t really play a lot of horror games, if any, at all. What I loved about Killing Floor III is the social aspect. I guess it’s the same in all co-op games where, when you are downed, players will get out of their way to help you up (or they are trophy/achievement hunters because there is a trophy tied to reviving a teammate). OK, jokes aside, this is exactly the same thing I do. If I see someone downed, I’ll leave my semi-safe spot to revive someone (I already earned that trophy long time ago). I say semi-safe spot because, truly, there is no 100% safe spot in this game. Zeds can come barging from anywhere.

Makes me greater

I love how the game allows me to be better. When I just started playing, after a few tries on “Normal” difficulty, I went ahead and tried Weekly Operation (which is “Hard” difficulty that has even more restrictions (such as devices not working or something like that). So when I tried it and lost in my first wave, I thought … WTH … how can people survive this … long story short … now I am playing campaigns on “Hell on Earth” difficulty which is hardest. Of course, I haven’t defeated any boss on that difficulty yet … but I still have time.

6 of you vs hordes of enemies

I love the fact that it’s 6 of you, not the usual 4. 6 of you vs the world. Literally. Also, it reminds me of games like Left 4 Dead. 4 of us, all classmates in real life, decapitating hundreds of zombies. Now it’s the same, except it’s 6 of us strangers (mostly, I guess) vs monsters (not exactly zombies). It was such a good feeling to remember those times.

My Killing Floor III review cannot skip the BAD

Of course, as in any review I do on this blog, I also must mention some of the bugs … and there are many of them. And very annoying, game breaking ones.

The Zipline

I’ll start with, probably, light annoyance … but annoyance nevertheless. PLEAES MAKE IT DIFFERENT BUTTON! I go near the zipline and, of course, I want to reload but instead of reloading I end up zipping on zipline … there is no way to cancel it. There is no way to redefine the buttons … (at least on PS5). And then I am moving further from the boss … or even worse … into a horde … on my own …

Annoying healing button

Another shit that I hate is the healing button. It’s D-PAD down. OK, I am running away from a monster or 50 of them … I know, my mum knows, my pet knows … everybody knows that I need to heal. Now I need to move away my left thumb and click on D-PAD Down but if I do so … I stop moving and monsters catch up and kill me … or hurt me … imagine if I could redefine my own buttons … I’d make healing R1 (because honstely, nobody uses that bullet-shooting-type-switch function anyways …). So it would be much easier for me to heal with R1 because then I wouldn’t need to stop moving … very annoying …

Crashes, crashes … and more fucking crashes

Over the last 2 days (maybe 12 hour in total), I experienced 6 crashes. Crazy. Imagine you just finished wave 5 and you are about to face a boss with truly amazing teammates and then BAM, it crashes … robbing you of that sweet victory. The worst part is that you don’t even gain XP for that mission. Considering that each match can take anywhere between 40-60 minutes, the crashes wasted 4-5 hours of my gameplay … and not even gave me XP. It’s fucking frustrating …

Paid Battle Pass

Wait, I just paid £35 for the game and you shove me a paid Battle Pass already? Come one … either game needs to be FREE with paid Battle Pass or if you charge for the game then at least give 1-2 months free Battle Pass before you charge. At least BP rewards are mostly cosmetic, not really skill-enhancing.

Killing Floor III review verdict

Once the crashes are fixed it truly is enjoyeable game. I bet there will be players sticking to this game for quite a long time if they add new maps, new characters, weapons, enemies, etc … as long as they keep new and fun content into the game … can they also collaborate? They are owned by Embracer Group who own massive amount of studios and IPs. I am sure they can collaborate with other games within their IP inventory. But that’s not for me to decide …
